Zachary Niemasz
Principal Investigator
Snehajyoti Chatterjee received his Master’s in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Calcutta, India, and his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Strasbourg, France. He was a post-doctoral researcher in the laboratory of Dr. Ted Abel at the University of Philadelphia and then at the University of Iowa. Since January 2023, he has been a tenured track faculty member of the Department of Neuroscience and Pharmacology at the University of Iowa.
Research Specialist
Stacy attended Iowa State University where she received her BS in Animal Ecology. She then completed an MS in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Stacy began working at the University of Iowa in 2018 and joined the Chatterjee lab as lab manager in early 2023.
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Budhaditya received his M.Sc. in Biotechnology from North Eastern Hill University, India. He pursued his Ph.D. in Biotechnology in Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, India. He joined the Chatterjee Lab as a postdoctoral scholar in January 2024 after submission of his Ph.D. thesis. During his Ph.D. thesis work, he worked significantly on several next-generation sequencing analysis including bulk RNA-Seq and single cell transcriptomics analysis. He is experienced in various cell/stem cell culture, animal handling as well as molecular biology techniques.
Graduate Student
Savannah received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Neuroscience from Miami University (Ohio) in 2018. From there she carried on with an internship at the HealthPartners Neuroscience Center in St Paul MN where she investigated the therapeutic potential of intranasal delivery of deferoxamine in reducing neuroinflammation and regulating glucose metabolism in the brain of a mouse model for Alzheimer’s Disease. In 2019 she was appointed as a lab manager with the Kerlin Lab at the University of Minnesota. She began her Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Iowa in 2022 and officially joined the Chatterjee Lab in the Spring of 2023. Her research is dedicated to further understanding the role the retrosplenial cortex plays in long term memory through investigations in it’s molecular signature, it's circuitry, and how neurodegeneration can impact it’s function.
Graduate Student
Megan received her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Iowa in 2023. After graduating, Megan stayed at Iowa and worked as the lab manager for the Hefti lab, where she investigated the role of tau-induced excitotoxicity in neurodegenerative disease. She joined the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience at the University of Iowa and began her Ph.D. in 2024. Megan officially joined the Chatterjee lab in the summer of 2025. Her research is focused on further understanding how genetic, epigenetic, and lifestyle factors contribute to memory loss associated with late-onset Alzheimer’s disease. When she’s not in the lab, Megan likes to run, sew, eat sushi, and watch reality TV.
Undergraduate Student
Zach is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Biology with a focus on Neurobiology at the University of Iowa. He plans to further his education in postgraduate studies as well. He has worked in the Chatterjee laboratory since 2023 and is inclined to continue his journey throughout his undergraduate studies. Although he does not specialize in any given field now, he has examined how environmental toxins impact cognition and neurodegeneration in ADRD, investigated the presences of specific genes, and utilized immunofluorescent techniques to identify protein expression in mice. In addition he has started to develop skills in scientific writing and presenting.
